It was a sad shock when former San Diego Padre Sean Burroughs died on May 9th. He was only 43 and the speculation was that he had a heart attack. He was found unconscious after dropping off his son for a Little League game in Long Beach. Now, two months later, the medical examiner has released the cause of death – fentanyl intoxication. Burroughs had battled with addiction a good part of his life.

Drafted by the Padres in 1998, Burroughs was the son of power hitter Jeff Burroughs, who played for the Atlanta Braves. Sean Burroughs achieved fame at an early age, starring in the 1993 Little League World Series as a pitcher, completing consecutive no-hitters and thereafter appearing on the David Letterman Show.

Playing third-base for the Padres, Burroughs hit .282 during his four-year tenure with the Padres, along with 11 home runs, before he was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2006.

He also played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Minnesota Twins.
