Oceanside’s pride and joy, Caitlin Simmers, is unbelievably STOKED after beating Sawyer Lindblad in the finals of the VIVO Rio Pro in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She won the same contest last year, so call it back-to-back victories.

The final heat wasn’t even close, with Simmers scoring 15.50 points versus Lindblad’s 3.26. (San Clemente’s Lindblad is a rookie sensation in her own right, and part of a new generation of women’s surfers who are making their presence known.)

The 5’3,” 18-year-old Simmers now sits comfortably atop the women’s rankings with 48,185 points. Her next stop is the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, which will be held between July 27th and Aug. 5th at Teahupo’o, Tahiti, French Polynesia.

In September, Simmers will be one of only five women surfers competing for the 2024 world championship at Lower Trestles, a hop, skip, and a jump from her home in Oceanside.

Known for not only her shredding ability in the water but also for her laid-back, nonchalant attitude, Simmers has won three surfing events this season, including Pipeline on the North Shore of Hawaii and Bells Beach, Australia.

Watch Simmers shred Brazil’s bumpy waves on her way to victory.
